Berkenshire is a small, largely rural county in England.
Its villages, market towns, country lanes and scattered estates have changed considerably over the years, though traces of earlier Berkenshire remain throughout the county.
For generations, the lives of its residents have been recorded in letters, newspapers, official documents, photographs and personal papers.
Some of those records tell perfectly ordinary stories.
Others do not.
Among the county archives are accounts of disappearances, unexplained events and incidents for which no single conclusion was ever reached. Their records remain.
The Berkenshire County Records Office preserves documents, correspondence and records relating to the people, places and events of the county.
Among its holdings are a number of unresolved case files. Each contains the surviving material associated with a particular incident: correspondence, official records, newspaper reports, photographs, maps, personal papers and other artefacts where relevant.
From time to time, selected files are released from the archive for independent examination.
The Records Office does not provide a solution.
The evidence is presented as it survives in the record. What happened is for the investigator to decide.
